Overview:

In this course students will focus on: exploring the full design thinking process, including the stages of empathy, problem definition, ideation, prototyping, and testing. Emphasis will be placed on applying human-centered methods to uncover user needs, generate creative solutions, and refine ideas through iteration. Through interactive exercises and a final group project, students will develop both theoretical understanding and practical competence in using design thinking to address complex challenges in professional and community contexts.

Learning Outcomes:

• Demonstrate an understanding of the design thinking process, its applications across contexts, common challenges in practice, and strategies for effective application.

• Apply empathy-based research methods to understand user needs within a human-centered design framework.

• Formulate precise problem statements by synthesizing insights from qualitative data.

• Generate and evaluate creative ideas using structured ideation techniques.

• Develop low-fidelity prototypes to explore and communicate potential solutions.

• Conduct user testing to refine prototypes and reflect on applying design thinking in professional contexts

Course Outline

Rizwan Zaidi

Rizwan Zaidi is a learning and innovation facilitator with over 15 years of diversified experience in driving transformation through design thinking. He has led training and workshops across Norway, Pakistan, Thailand, and Malaysia, and partnered with organizations to implement design thinking led projects that address real business challenges. Rizwan blends global experience with hands-on practice, equipping participants to apply design thinking tools confidently in their professional and personal contexts.

Application Process:

Participants must register online through the CES website by clicking on their desired course and filling out a one-page form. Before starting the registration process, please ensure that you have the following:

- A passport-sized photograph for the CES smartcard. It should be against a white background.

- Correct CNIC details.

Incorrect information provided during the registration process will lead towards cancellation of your enrolment at any stage, and participants will not be entitled to claim a refund.

Once you have completed your online registration, you may proceed to the payment section. You have two options:

1. Pay online using your bank debit/credit cards through LUMS online payment system https://pay.lums.edu.pk

2. Download the fee voucher and deposit cash in any branch of the designated banks specified on the fee voucher. 

Once the payment has been made, you will receive a confirmation email within 24 to 48 working hours, and your payment status will be updated to "ENROLLED" in the online application portal.

Installment:

Note: CES may cancel or postpone a course due to insufficient enrolment or unforeseen circumstances. In this case, the university will refund registration/processing fee (if any) but will not be responsible for any other related charges/expenses including cancellation/change charges by airline and travel agencies.
