Course Overview:

This short course introduces illustration as a professional visual practice, focusing on visual language, storytelling, and contemporary applications. It is designed for emerging illustrators, designers, and creative practitioners who want to understand how illustration functions beyond isolated artworks and how it can be applied meaningfully across a range of visual and professional contexts.

The course guides students through the fundamentals of visual language and narrative development, followed by key considerations such as composition, typography, and professional workflows. Students are also introduced to portfolio development and presentation standards relevant to current creative industries.

By the end of the course, participants will complete a fully developed illustration project from concept to final presentation, gaining both creative clarity and a practical understanding of illustration as a professional discipline.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand the role of illustration within contemporary visual, commercial, and cultural contexts.

  • Analyse creative briefs and translate ideas, narratives, and concepts into effective illustrated visuals.

  • Apply principles of visual language and storytelling to create clear and meaningful illustrations.

  • Integrate illustration with typography and layout for applied visual communication.

  • Demonstrate an understanding of professional workflows, feedback processes, and portfolio presentation.

  • Develop and present a complete illustration project suitable for professional portfolio use.

Course: Introduction to Business

The overall experience that I’ve had with this course is just amazing. It’s like a micro MBA that LUMS can have you do in less than two months. It’s a very rigorous course, it’s time-consuming and very hands-on and is a learning experience that everyone should experience at least once in their lives.
