Course Overview:

Mobile Application Development in the Age of AI is a 12-session, 30-hour course teaching React Native application development for Android, iOS, and Web from first principles??while deliberately teaching students how to work alongside an AI Agent rather than depending on one blindly.

Over four weeks, students progress from raw JavaScript and component fundamentals through interactive UIs, real backend integration with Firebase, native device features, and finally polish and deployment-readiness culminating in a self-directed capstone app that runs on iOS, Android, and Web from a single codebase.

What makes this course distinct is its explicit, staged approach to AI-assisted development. Rather than allowing unrestricted AI Agent use from day one, the course follows a deliberate "AI Release Curve" (see Course Philosophy) that ensures students build genuine engineering intuition before layering in the speed of AI-assisted coding. By the end of the course, students are not just capable of building real, cross-platform mobile applications they are capable of directing, reviewing, and correcting an AI Agent's work with the judgement of someone who understands what "correct" actually looks like.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

• Build and style cross-platform mobile UI using React Native components, JSX, and Flexbox layout, deployable to iOS, Android, and Web from a single codebase

• Manage component state and props to build interactive, reusable UI components

• Implement multi-screen navigation using stack and tab navigators

• Fetch, display, and manage asynchronous data from REST APIs, including loading and error states

• Design and implement a real-time backend data layer using Firebase Authentication and Firestore

• Integrate native device capabilities camera, location, local storage and handle platform-specific differences across iOS, Android, and Web

• Apply animation and polish techniques to improve perceived app quality

• Critically evaluate AI Agent-generated code for correctness, rather than accepting it uncritically

• Prompt and collaborate with an AI Agent effectively scoping requests, providing context, and reviewing generated changes before accepting them

• Independently plan, build, and present a complete capstone mobile application incorporating navigation, real data persistence, and at least one native device feature

Application Process:

Participants must register online through the CES website by clicking on their desired course and filling out a one-page form. Before starting the registration process, please ensure that you have the following:

- A passport-sized photograph for the CES smartcard. It should be against a white background.

- Correct CNIC details.

Incorrect information provided during the registration process will lead towards cancellation of your enrolment at any stage, and participants will not be entitled to claim a refund.

Once you have completed your online registration, you may proceed to the payment section. You have two options:

1. Pay online using your bank debit/credit cards through LUMS online payment system https://pay.lums.edu.pk

2. Download the fee voucher and deposit cash in any branch of the designated banks specified on the fee voucher.

Once the payment has been made, you will receive a confirmation email within 24 to 48 working hours, and your payment status will be updated to "ENROLLED" in the online application portal.

Note: CES may cancel or postpone a course due to insufficient enrolment or unforeseen circumstances.
