Course overview:

Filmmaking is perhaps the most demanding of the major forms of human expression. It is capital intensive, cerebral and emotionally challenging as well as technologically exacting. In order to distill the teaching of the art and craft of film in a six week course, it is imperative to focus on the main purpose the world of moving pictures has found in its century-long history: storytelling. Specifically, a kind of storytelling not based on expositional words but utilizing and appealing to the senses. For film, more-so than any other existing medium, engages more senses than any other. Hence, the focus of this course is two-fold: that students learn the means, vocabulary and language of cinematic storytelling - which is, essentially, sensory storytelling - and through the passage of the course, acquire the basic technical skills necessary for the future of their personal and professional expression.

Learning Outcomes:

Filmmakers will know the basic editing techniques and be able to make short films. Through this course, students will get a chance to understand the world of filmmaking through the reproduction, production and post-production phase.
