Course Overview:
German Language Level A1 is a language acquisition course designed for students with no prior knowledge of the target language or with very limited prior exposure. Learners will communicate in the target language in familiar and unfamiliar contexts through the study of language, grammar, vocabulary, texts, and culture. Communication is evidenced through receptive, productive and interactive skills across a range of contexts and purposes that are appropriate to the level of the course.
This course follows an interactive approach with a focus on experiential learning and intercultural understanding. Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills developed across the course: thinking skills, research skills, communication skills, social skills and self-management skills.
Learning Outcome:
Understand and use familiar everyday expressions and basic phrases.
Introduce themselves and others and provide basic personal information.
Ask and answer simple questions about familiar topics.
Communicate in basic everyday situations such as shopping, ordering food, making simple appointments and asking for directions.
Understand short, simple written and spoken texts.
Write simple messages, forms, emails and descriptions.
Participate in basic conversations on familiar topics.
Demonstrate basic awareness of German-speaking cultures.
Develop elementary proficiency across all four language strands.
Gain an appreciation of German culture and intercultural perspectives.

pedagogical leadership & international education across all IB
programmes (PYP, MYP, DP & CP). She currently serves as German
Programme Coordinator at Forman Christian College (A Chartered
University) and Language Acquisition Lead across IB World Continuum
Schools. She received her education and professional training in
Germany and Japan. She is an IBEN-appointed Workshop Leader,
School Evaluator & IBDP German & TOK Examiner. A graduate of Martin-
Luther-University, Germany, she also holds a German Language Diploma
from the Goethe-Institute Berlin. Her professional experience includes
teaching and leadership roles at LUMS, FCCU, Beaconhouse and Lahore
Grammar School, among other leading educational institutions.
Application process:
Participants must register online through the CES website by clicking on their desired course and filling out a one-page form. Before starting the registration process, please ensure that you have the following:
- A passport-sized photograph for the CES smartcard. It should be against a white background.
- Correct CNIC details.
Incorrect information provided during the registration process will lead towards cancellation of your enrolment at any stage, and participants will not be entitled to claim a refund.
Once you have completed your online registration, you may proceed to the payment section. You have two options:
1. Pay online using your bank debit/credit cards through LUMS online payment system https://pay.lums.edu.pk
2. Download the fee voucher and deposit cash in any branch of the designated banks specified on the fee voucher.
Once the payment has been made, you will receive a confirmation email within 24 to 48 working hours, and your payment status will be updated to "ENROLLED" in the online application portal.

Note: CES may cancel or postpone a course due to insufficient enrolment or unforeseen circumstances. In this case, the university will refund registration/processing fee (if any) but will not be responsible for any other related charges/expenses including cancellation/change charges by airline and travel agencies.
