Course Overview:

This capacity-building programme is designed for managers who want to develop the practical knowledge, skills, and mindset required to lead people and deliver results effectively.

The course addresses the full range of challenges a front-line manager faces: understanding their role and identity as a leader, building and motivating a team, managing performance under pressure, aligning their team to organisational goals, making sound decisions, and leading through change. Three areas often missing from basic management training emotional intelligence, leadership and team-building, and change management have been added to give participants a more complete and modern management toolkit.

The course progresses logically: it begins with who a manager is and how they lead, moves through the core management disciplines of goals, time, and problem solving, and concludes with the interpersonal and communication skills that tie everything together. Each session combines frameworks and concepts with practical exercises, case discussions, and personal reflection ensuring participants leave with tools they can apply immediately in their day-to-day roles.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of this course, the students should be able to:

  • Understand their role and responsibilities as a front-line manager and the transition from individual contributor to people leader.

  • Apply core leadership styles and team-building practices to build cohesive, high-performing teams.

  • Develop emotional intelligence to manage themselves and their relationships with team members more effectively.

  • Use systems thinking to diagnose performance gaps and improve individual, team, and organisational productivity.

  • Manage performance under pressure and apply practical stress-management techniques to themselves and their teams.

  • Align personal vision and purpose with corporate goals and help team members find meaning in organisational direction.

  • Set SMART goals and objectives, cascade them effectively, and conduct productive performance conversations.

  • Organise and plan their time effectively and use delegation as a tool for team development.

  • Apply structured problem-solving and decision-making processes to workplace challenges.

  • Lead teams through change, manage resistance, and sustain new ways of working.

  • Apply basic project management tools to plan, execute, and close work initiatives.

  • Communicate effectively, build interpersonal relationships, and develop professional networks.

Course: Introduction to Business

The overall experience that I’ve had with this course is just amazing. It’s like a micro MBA that LUMS can have you do in less than two months. It’s a very rigorous course, it’s time-consuming and very hands-on and is a learning experience that everyone should experience at least once in their lives.
