
Course Overview:
This course offers a structured introduction to the theoretical and practical foundations of interior design as a professional discipline. The course examines spatial planning, design principles, materiality, lighting, furniture, and visual communication, while emphasizing the relationship between functionality, aesthetics, and user experience. Through a studio-based pedagogical approach, students engage in conceptual development, hands-on design exercises, and guided project work. The course also provides an introductory understanding of contemporary design workflows, including site analysis and the role of digital and visualization tools in interior design practice.
Learning Outcomes:
Understand the principles and elements of interior design
Develop functional and aesthetically balanced spatial layouts
Apply knowledge of colour, materials, lighting, and furniture
Communicate design ideas through mood boards and layout sketches
Understand how AutoCAD, 3D visualisation, and AI support design processes
Gain exposure to real sites, materials, and production environments
Present a complete interior design concept professionally

Minahil Ahmed is an interior designer and creative entrepreneur with over a decade of experience shaping thoughtful, functional, and visually engaging spaces. Trained in furniture design and enriched by professional practice in both England and Lahore, her work blends craftsmanship, material exploration, and modern design sensibilities. As the Director and Curator of Muse Art Gallery, she works at the intersection of interiors, art, and creative entrepreneurship, fostering spaces that inspire collaboration and conversation. Passionate about education and mentorship, Minahil brings a hands-on, process-driven approach to both her design practice and teaching.
Application Process:
Participants must register online through the CES website by clicking on their desired course and filling out a one-page form. Before starting the registration process, please ensure that you have the following:
- A passport-sized photograph for the CES smartcard. It should be against a white background.
- Correct CNIC details.
Incorrect information provided during the registration process will lead towards cancellation of your enrolment at any stage, and participants will not be entitled to claim a refund.
Once you have completed your online registration, you may proceed to the payment section. You have two options:
1. Pay online using your bank debit/credit cards through LUMS online payment system https://pay.lums.edu.pk
2. Download the fee voucher and deposit cash in any branch of the designated banks specified on the fee voucher.
Once the payment has been made, you will receive a confirmation email within 24 to 48 working hours, and your payment status will be updated to "ENROLLED" in the online application portal.

Note: CES may cancel or postpone a course due to insufficient enrolment or unforeseen circumstances. In this case, the university will refund registration/processing fee (if any) but will not be responsible for any other related charges/expenses including cancellation/change charges by airline and travel agencies.
